Are you burnt out? Do you find yourself operating on autopilot? Yes, you’re accomplishing some of your goals and experiencing some success, but you’re really just going through the motions.
You’re so focused on achieving your next goal that you don’t have time to pause or celebrate the significance of just how far you’ve come. Let’s discuss ways you can avoid burnout on your success journey.
It’s Okay to Celebrate
It’s easy to be so focused on your end goal that you forget to enjoy your success journey. You keep your head down and continue to work hard and move swiftly from one goal to the next. I too have been guilty of this.
I remember when I was in school and had finally earned my bachelor’s degree. After many starts and stops, it had been a long time coming. While it was undoubtedly a milestone in my life, I skipped the graduation because I was focused on starting classes for my master’s degree. I received my diploma in the mail. No fanfare, no celebration, no acknowledgment of my achievement. I was just on to my next goal.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with working hard or being focused on your goals. We all want to achieve a certain level of success, but we should enjoy every step of the journey. Be fully present in the moment, your moment.
I am going to give you 4 strategies to help you avoid getting burnt out on your success journey.
#1 Celebrate Your Milestones
Celebrate everything. Even those that seem small or insignificant. Each milestone is getting you closer to your end goal. Have a celebration, reward yourself, send yourself flowers. How you choose to celebrate is up to you, just do it. Acknowledging your wins helps to build confidence in your ability to finish.
#2 Share Your Success with Others
Not only should you celebrate yourself, but also use your milestones as opportunities to thank those that helped you achieve your goal. Show your appreciation and gratitude for the big and small things they’ve done. When you share your success with others, you create an atmosphere of success. When you accomplish your goals, you inspire and empower others to do the same.
#3 Take a breather
Come up for air! Instead of going from one goal to the next, do something enjoyable that has nothing to do with work. Many people have the erroneous belief that they have to work around the clock in order to be successful. You have to have periods of rest and relaxation. When you get to the point of burnout, nothing gets accomplished.
#4 Document Your Success
Keep track of your success. Use a journal or notebook to log your progress. Not only does this build your self-confidence and allow you to see how far you’ve come, but this tracker can also serve as your track record during difficult times. It can help remind you of how far you’ve come and what you are capable of.
It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of achieving your goals. But in order to avoid burnout, you have to pause and take time to celebrate your progress. Success is a journey, not a destination. Celebrate every milestone along the way because every step of the way matters! ⠀
